A Young Gentleman Requires Treatment For His Severe Depression, Relationship Difficulties, and For His Alcohol and Drug Dependency
Nearly three months ago I had lunch with a thirty-five-year-old male named Alexander who suffers from severe depression, has relationship difficulties, and who is alcohol and drug dependent. As affirmed by Alexander, it is his alcohol and drug dependency and his intense depression that had the most to do with his perpetual relationship difficulties.
I recall hearing that a history of mental health issues, chemical dependency, and hazardous and careless drinking frequently take place in the same family. Moreover, I have read that in such situations, an individual needs to get treatment for both medical conditions and that addiction and mental health problems often occur in the same individual.
As affirmed by Alexander, he is so defeated by his relationship problems and by both of his medical conditions that he in essence has no energy to do much of anything. What is especially unfortunate about this is that earlier in his life, Alexander managed to finish two semesters of grad school in European history.
Alexander’s circumstance makes me wonder if he is an example of a person who can look in the mirror and perceive his drug abuse and alcohol drinking problems and do something constructive about these issues or if he is an individual who has to hit the very bottom before he gets alcohol and drug addiction counseling that results in lasting sobriety.
The Need For a Rehab Protocol He Can Believe In and a Therapist He Can Trust
If it would be beneficial I would think that I could recommend quite a few websites and blogs that could possibly help him find info about drug abuse symptoms, the stages of alcoholism, chemical dependency information, and relationship issues. In my opinion, nonetheless, Alexander needs to locate a counseling program he can believe in and follow through over the long haul and locate a healthcare professional he can trust.
I could be incorrect but it seems to make sense that Alexander probably needs to look in the mirror regarding his drug addiction signs and alcoholic symptoms and understand the fact that he cannot use drugs or even drink in moderation if he wants to get sober, stay sober, and start on the road to lasting sobriety.
It may be asked how counseling would help his alcohol and drug dependency. First of all, there are quite a few recently discovered doctor-prescribed drugs that can help Alexander avoid an alcohol or a drug relapse, help him through the alcohol and drug detox process, and help him through his withdrawal symptoms.
Second, Alexander would learn to concede the fact that there is utterly nothing positive about drug abuse and careless drinking and that engaging in one or both situations is the route to financial difficulties, legal problems, deteriorating health, shattered relationships, a premature death, and poor work and school performance.
Third, treatment for his depression and for his relationship issues might help him cope with these psychological issues more successfully and perhaps create less of a need for him to engage in addictive behavior.
The Relevance of Recovery Groups Like Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous
There are possibly several family members, other people, and friends who would want to help Alexander with his chemical dependency and his harmful drinking. He more likely than not would experience greater tolerance from a recovery group such as Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous, on the other hand, instead of getting guidance from individuals who rarely drink or who have never used drugs.
When Individuals Accomplish Things They Like and About Which They Are Zealous
There’s a philosophical outlook that proclaims that people who do things they love and something about which they are zealous attain a magnificent place in life. Stated differently, when people do what they enjoy, they rarely if ever go through an uneventful life or boredom. If they get involved in something that is enjoyable, moreover, they become more fulfilled and experience more contentment and delight in life and in their relationships.
When this is thought about even for a few moments it becomes clear that this uplifting attitude is poles apart from a life that is centered in drug and alcohol addiction because such a lifestyle removes the happiness and delight that life offers.
Since Alexander lacks the motivation to do much of anything in his life, it is evident that he urgently needs a little hope for a more productive existence. And the sad thing is that hope is virtually everywhere around Alexander if he could only get to the point in life to get the therapy he requires for his extreme depression and dependency and continue with his treatment routine.
More Positive Relationships, A Wonderful Life, Self Esteem, and Positive Change Are a Reality
Alexander is simply too young to be dejected in life. He doesn't comprehend this at the moment but if he can learn how to remove himself from alcohol and drugs via alcohol and drug rehab and get the counseling he needs for his extreme depression, he can reorient his life and start living with direction, self-respect, and passion.
More solid relationships, affirmative change, self respect, and a wonderful life are certainly possibilities for Alexander if only he could become motivated to seek the medical treatment he requires, follow through with his therapy regimen, live his life in a healthy and drug and alcohol-free manner, and learn how to cultivate a more positive attitude about life.
