Feng Shui Bed Position How To
Considering how much of a person's life is spent sleeping, there is little wonder that Feng Shui bed position principles are so important to designers who subscribe to this philosophy. Harmonizing design theory offers some basic guidelines to help you achieve optimal bedroom arrangement. If your sleep is not deep and restful, try applying some of these principles to your bedroom decor.
The bed must first of all be placed in a stable position that supports it energetically. Always use a mattress frame (never place a mattress directly on the floor). Position the head of the bed against a wall, and not in the center of the room. Then consider some other placement guidelines.
Traditionally, when a person died at home they were carried out of the house feet first. Feng Shui guidelines associate poor sleep quality with lying in bed with the feet pointing directly "out" of a doorway. Positioning a bed opposite a doorway is not recommended.
Sleeping with your feet facing "out" of a doorway foreshadows death and removal of a corpse from the house. Needless to say, Feng Shui frowns on anyone sleeping in this position.
The headboard should not be placed against a wall where there is a toilet. Bathrooms contain a lot of negative energy, and this can damage sleep. If there is a bathroom door facing the bed, it must remain closed at all times. Hang your floor length mirror on the inside of the bathroom door to further reflect negative energy away from the bed. Negative energy flows downward, so make sure that there is no toilet in the room above the bed.
Avoid positioning a bed against, above or across from a kitchen stove. The heat generated by this kitchen appliance (actual and representational) can lead to poor sleep experiences.
Next, consider the ceiling directly above the bed. An overhead beam that crosses the bed horizontally can produce an oppressive sleep experience. A beam that passes between a couple is said to encourage marital strife. Have a drop ceiling installed, or employ other design techniques to cover any exposed beams in a bedroom ceiling.
If the floor plan of a house includes staircases and bedrooms that face each other across a hallway, other potential energetic flow conflicts are taken into account.
Feng Shui encourages people to give their bed position the utmost priority.
