Getting The Most Out Of Your Work Day
Being able to multi-task is a quality most employers look for, as a freelancer you learn how to master it. You have to be all things for your business at once. You may even be losing sleep over the fact that you have to get so many things done. When you do wake up in the morning, you probably rush to your home office with no time for anything else. If this sounds familiar, you're probably doing less as opposed to doing more. Read on to find out how this is possible.
Here's what you have to do first: rest. Being well-rested when you wake up will help your productivity. If your alarm clock rings only a few hours after you've fallen asleep, you're probably going to dread waking up. However, if you've fallen asleep early, getting 8 hours of sleep, you'll wake up energized and refreshed.
Going to sleep early may sound quite easy, but everyone who has too many things to do knows just how hard this can be. The temptation to keep working is huge. However, when you understand that you can get more done in less time when you are rested, you'll probably appreciate the value of a good night's rest much more.
So, once you wake up, do you rush to your home office to get things done? Well, you may have to change this. Doing something that requires discipline like riding your mongoose mountain bike before you start work can help you through the entire day. When you challenge yourself in the morning, you can look back on your accomplishment and think to yourself that if you can do that, there's nothing you can't accomplish. What a motivator!
Once your back from riding one of the several diamondback bikes you own, eat a healthy breakfast. You may be tempted to skip breakfast, but you'll be doing yourself more harm than good. Imagine sitting at your desk trying to get work done with the sound of your stomach pounding in your ears, what a distraction!
Spend time creating a list of exactly what needs to be done. You can do this before you start your work, or have it prepared from the night before. Find out which method works best for you. Reevaluate your task list. What definitely has to get done today, an article, a web design revision, the urge to satisfy a tattoo fever?
After you've gone through the pre-work preparation steps, its now time to focus. Do you have to get dressed, even if you're working from home, to make you feel professional? Do you have to go into your home office to get into your work mentality? Whatever it may be, when you sit down to work, avoid distractions and focus on what you have to get done.
