Harmonizing The Home With The Pakua
The Pakua is an ancient tool used in Feng Shui, an age old Chinese art created for harmonious placement of objects in the home. In translation its name means wind and water and the Pakua is used to divide the home into nine different yet distinct sectors, each representative of an element of life.
The Pakua consists of career and business in the north, knowledge and self cultivation in the north east, family in the east, wealth and prosperity in the south east and fame in the south. Marriage and partnership are in the south west, creativity and children is in the west and the helpful people sector is in the north west, with health in the centre.
Sector for sector, specific enhancements can be made to highlight the positive qualities of these aspects. To ensure a positive flow of chi to the career sector, be sure that the front entry to your house is clean and uncluttered and that the path is clear and well kept. It is considered very fortuitous to paint your door red and to protect your home with a set of fu dogs at the front entrance.
Knowledge and self cultivation can easily be enhanced by incorporating shades of blue and green into this area of your home. Books are ideally placed here, as they represent knowledge and the addition of a glass wind chimes would not go amiss here. If you wish to place plants in this, or any other area, be sure that they are healthy and have no dead or dying growth on them.
Family is an important sector that can be enhanced by the wood element. Place a tall growing plant in a wooden pot, place wooden ornaments here or blue and green objects for added effect. Crystals are also a useful addition and come in a variety of colors for different effects. Blue for mental clarity, green for physical health, pink for emotional well-being and red as an all around energetic booster.
Wealth and prosperity are an important aspect of any persons life and to enhance the chi for this aspect, incorporate purples, reds and greens into this sector. Place a beautiful water feature or place a fish tank in your wealth corner. Place plants with round leaves, representative of coins, like African Violets, here.
Helpful people is a sector that should not be underestimated and it can be enhanced by using shades of grey, black and white. Place statues of saints or angels and other religious figures here. The marriage corner is best served with colors of pink, red and white and should be enhanced by a pink quartz crystal in a heart shape. You can also place a double happiness symbol here or light a set of pink or red candles.
