Have You Considered A Feng Shui Fire Pit?

Feng shui is the ancient oriental practice of designing living spaces to incorporate the elements of fire, earth, water, wood and metal into a home to create a 'magical blend' of energy and vitality. One of the best ways to bring one of feng shui's major elements into your office, home, or even vacation getaway is with the addition of a fire pit in your living space.

Usually fire is considered a masculine element, and should be included in rooms where you want to make yourself feel more powerful and passionate. Fire elements also are common in kitchen and dining room areas since they are associated with aiding digestion.

While most fire pits are built outdoors due to ventilation issues, some of the today modern versions are being designed to be used indoors by using fuel sources that are "flu-less" like denatured ethanol (which is made from corn) and bio-gels that are alcohol-based. You can find cleverly designed fire pits that are shaped as coffee tables, sculptures and even television sets.

Outdoor fire pits for wood burning are best placed in the middle of a semicircular patio for all family members and guests to enjoy. In order to enhance the look of your fire pit, consider buying one made from copper or another reflective material that way the flames will shimmer and flow. If possible, locate your outdoor fire patio near large glass doors and plate glass windows so the effect can be enjoyed indoors as well.

The more of the feng shui elements you can include in the decoration of the fire pit area the more of the magical harmony you are creating. Add living plants and natural stone patios to enhance the earth and wood energy. Or, if you have a pool or fountain, try placing the fire pit near your water element so the flames can reflect in the water. To capture the spirit of the air, install wind chimes and fluttering flags to dance in the waves of heat produced by the fire pit.

Picking suitable colors to complement the feng shui elements in your room or patio is something you want to keep in mind from the start. Since fire will already be representing colors such as maroon, red, and pink you'll want to use them sparingly in the area. Shades of blue and black, muted earth tones and forest colors represent the elements of earth wood and water. When creating a warm and welcoming feng shui fire pit area creativity is the key.
