Kua Number And Feng Shui
Fengshui is an essential part of understanding Chinese astrology. It is the principle of achieving balance in life, and is integrated into many daily activities. A large part of fengshui revolves around calculating your kua number, which is used to decide which directions you should face at different times in order to bring the most good luck to your life. Utilizing this information correctly is extremely important to living a harmonious life in Chinese astrological beliefs.
How It Is Calculated
It is relatively simple to calculate one's number. The formula is based on the year a person was born. However, since it follows the Chinese New Year as opposed to the western calendar, if one's birthday falls in January or February an accurate calculation will only be achieved by assuring that the Chinese New Year has already taken place. Otherwise one year must be subtracted before continuing. Add together all the digits of your birth year, then do the same thing for the resulting number. Keep up this pattern until only one digit remains. Males should subtract this new number from ten and females should add it to five. The final result of this should be another single digit number, and the end of your calculations.
What Your Number Means
This number is tied to the eight directional coordinates: north, northeast, east, southeast, south, southwest, west, and northwest. Depending on your number, a different direction will be associated with a different area of life, both positive and negative. For instance, if your number is 4, north is success, south is health, northeast is loss, and west is death. Depending on your region or the translation you acquire these categories may vary slightly, but each number will always consist of four auspicious directions and four inauspicious directions.
Use in Daily Life
In daily life, one's number and the directions associated with it are used in many areas, from relationships to furniture placement. One may, for example, try to make sure their desk at work is facing toward his or her success direction, or their bed is pointed so he or she is facing the direction associated with good health. Whatever directions your number has tied to negative results, such as death, loss, or bad luck, should be avoided. Furniture might be arranged so no chairs face these directions, or one may avoid walking in this direction for any length of time.
Finding your kua number is very important in achieving balance and order in an individual's life in the tradition of Chinese astrology and fengshui. Following the directions associated with your number is said to assure harmony, good luck, and an avoidance of many of life's problems.
